My final render shows the three forms i experimented with in this project. The piston interested me the most because of its simplicity and the shape, which is why i chose to make this on the 3D printer. The render shows the forms as very simplistic, which they are as they are made of metal and other plain surfaces.

Photo
My photo shows the difference in thickness, and how that effects the transparency between different areas of the printed model.
Development
The precedents i have chosen to focus on are the mechanical like images. I developed a sprocket and a piston as my main two prototypes and also experimented with various textures and materials on them to make them look as real as possible. I used solidworks for the foundations of my models but the fine detail was done in 3DS max.

Project 3 Precedents
The precedents i have picked cover a wide range of styles and techniques that are possible to make using the 3D printer. The mechanical parts interest me because of the small details included in the design, and the fact that they are present in the world we live in right now.

Combination
This combination shot shows the design processes and ideas i had along the way. Including a precedent image, work drawing, render and the final product.
